BAPE Solid Shark Full-Zip Hoodie - Gray / Black

The Shark Face With Nowhere to Hide.

The camo version of the Shark Hoodie lets the pattern do half the work. The solid version does not. On this hoodie, the shark face sits against a ground that matches the body of the garment exactly -- the same heather grey, or the same flat black, from hem to hood tip, interrupted only by the face itself. There is no pattern to create visual distance between the wearer and the graphic. The shark is there, at full volume, on an unmarked surface.

On the Gray colourway, the hood and the upper jaw are both heather grey, which means the upper jaw does not read as a separate element -- it is the same colour as its background, and what defines the shark face is the contrast between the grey ground and the white teeth, the red-pupilled eyes, and the red interior of the open mouth. The face is constructed from its contrasting parts rather than from an outlined silhouette. On Black, the same logic applies but in a more extreme form: the upper jaw and the hood are the same flat black, so the jaw is entirely invisible, and the shark face is defined only by the white teeth, the white eye surrounds with red pupils, and the red-lit mouth interior. The head of the shark cannot be seen. Only its eyes and teeth remain, floating on a black surface.

The left sleeve carries a circular emblem -- star and concentric rings -- at mid-arm. The right cuff has an Ape Head woven label. The kangaroo pocket sits low on the front. The full-length centre-front zip runs from the hem to the tip of the hood. Everything else is solid.
