Where the companion shorts carry a circular Ape Head badge, this version carries the full brand wordmark: a small Ape Head icon followed by "A BATHING APE" in embroidered text, positioned horizontally across the left thigh. The embroidery is tone-on-tone in both colourways -- thread matched to the base fabric, reading through texture and the directional sheen of the satin stitch rather than through contrast. Both shorts share a raw-cut hem: the leg opening is deliberately left unfinished, with the fabric edge cut and left to fray slightly rather than hemmed or finished with a band. This is an intentional construction detail, not a manufacturing variation.

Both colourways are 440gsm custom cotton, relaxed wide fit, above-knee length.

Black

Flat matte black cotton with a smooth surface. The wordmark embroidery is in deep charcoal-black thread -- just enough tonal separation to register as embroidery up close, invisible at distance. Waistband: exposed elasticated band with a thick black drawstring, metal-tipped cord ends. The waistband construction has more visual weight than the covered version on the Gray colourway -- the exposed elastic with the metal-tipped cord reads as a design detail rather than a utility element. Parallel topstitch lines on both side seams. Raw-cut hem.

Gray

Heather grey melange cotton -- the fabric is a black-and-white mixed yarn construction, producing a flecked, textured surface across the entire panel rather than a flat solid grey. The wordmark embroidery sits in grey thread across the heather ground; the satin-stitch directional sheen makes it readable in angled light. Waistband: covered elasticated waistband in matching grey cotton with a thin grey drawstring -- a more traditional sweatshort construction than the Black colourway's exposed band. Two side seam pockets. Single rear pocket. Raw-cut hem, with the cream interior of the fabric visible at the unfinished edge -- this is most visible on the Grey colourway where the contrast between the heather exterior and the lighter interior shows clearly.
