BAPE FW25 Moon Ape Head Space T-Shirt - White / Black

The Moon Inside the Ape Head. Earth in the Corner.

The Ape Head on this FW25 T-shirt is filled with space. Not as a metaphor -- as a material: the lower half of the face contains a high-resolution photograph of the lunar surface, grey and cratered, the kind of image taken from orbit or from the surface itself, where the texture of the moon is specific and unsmoothed. The upper half of the interior holds deep black -- the colour of space -- with the Ape Head's crown detail rendered in pale yellow-white above it, and a small photographic image of Earth in the upper right corner of the silhouette: the blue-and-white sphere, cloud cover visible, unmistakably the planet. The face features -- eyes, nose -- are printed in light tones over the lunar photograph, present but restrained, subordinate to the image beneath them. The outer edge of the entire Ape Head shape is traced in a fluorescent yellow-green glow, a colour that reads as something between a radiation outline and an atmospheric edge.

The black colourway handles the image differently from the white. On white, all three zones are distinct: the glowing edge, the space-black interior, the grey lunar surface. On black, the interior black of the graphic merges with the base of the shirt, and the Ape Head loses its upper boundary. What remains visible is the fluorescent edge -- now an outline without a solid dark interior to back it -- the lunar surface occupying the lower half, and the Earth in the corner. The effect is closer to something floating than something printed: the moon, the planet, the glowing rim, appearing on a black ground without a clear border to contain them.
