The LA Version Has a Cigar.

Every city gets a different version of the ape. The Los Angeles exclusive gives him a Cuban cigar, a Cuban link chain, and a pair of black rectangular frames that belong to a specific tradition — the tradition of men who had already made it in West Coast America before streetwear existed as a category, who wore their success with a particular deliberate heaviness. The accessories are not decorative. They are a character study compressed into three objects.

The cigar reads immediately: it is not a cigarette, not a vape, not an abstraction. A cigar of this size and colour — thick, dark wrapper, smoking from the tip — is a prop from a specific lexicon. It sits in the corner of the mouth the way it would sit in the mouth of someone who has been holding one for forty years and sees no reason to stop. The Cuban link chain falls across the lower jaw and neck with the weight that a chain of that gauge is supposed to carry. The sunglasses are large and black and entirely without expression, which is itself an expression — the expression of someone who does not need to show you anything.

White base brings the brown and gold of the graphic into clarity — the chain catches light, the cigar reads warm. Black base merges the Ape Head with the ground so that only the accessories and the ® remain in full definition. Both are correct. The LA OG does not require a background to be legible.
